SINCERELY Q - MR NICE GUY

Written by Iwediokpulu Quincy

“I sincerely lay no claims to being more knowledgeable than anyone, yet these are just my own thoughts and understanding which can be freely criticized and debated on -please feel free to if you disagree. However I do believe I know better than I knew yesterday and many years before. The sincere purpose thus, is to reach and bless someone out there. Knowledge isn’t power unless it is shared. Enjoy!”

I think it was a month ago. I had just finished the last dress I was working on for a wedding party that was going to go-down that weekend and my back was aching terribly. So, ignoring the heap of clean clothes that I was meant to fold and hang for the week, I jumped on my bed and tried to stretch my back. It ached so badly that I could hear the muscles in it cracking noisily and so, I began to wish there was someone to help massage it but then, I heard my phone beep. Shit! The phone was right across the room on my sewing machine. Muttering grudgingly beneath my breath, I struggled out of the bed and walked to the sewing machine. It was a ping from my friend Ijeoma...

HOUSE DE LA’Q 9:50PM
Eh maybe…

That was my last response that night as I scratched my head in thought and dropped my phone. But that wasn’t the last time we had that conversation. My friend IJ kept expecting the dude to somehow call.
“He was cute…very cute and was extremely nice to me” she kept lamenting and I wanted to tell her: He was probably just being nice and was definitely a gentle man. But because gentlemen are so rare in this part of our world, we assume that any little courtesy they extend to us, has ulterior motives which wasn’t always the case. We unfortunately read more into those amazing gestures, whereas they were simply being nice.
My friend Ij cried. She insisted that since he didn’t ask for her contact, she should have asked for his. And I wanted to ask her:

“What if it had been his job to open the door for you and escort you to your car? He could have been a valet, for all we knew. You were obviously already taken away by his charm that you didn’t even notice his uniform?” but I was sure my friend wouldn’t want to hear that. To her, she had just lost a golden opportunity to have been with an amazing guy. After all he was single….

But you see, the fact that these men single or not are” gentlemen”- they open the door for you, pull out your chair for you at dinner, let you get into a car before them, help you with your bag if it appears too heavy, buy you flowers, pay for lunch or dinner, dust your seat for you before you sit, kiss your fingers- doesn’t mean they will make excellent boyfriends or husbands. As a matter of fact, it doesn’t even mean they are really into you. It simply means they were brought up properly and have profound respect for women generally and which by the way also means, they would do the same to all women without ulterior motives. So you see, to them you are just like every other women who deserves respect. To them, they are simply being nice.

I wished then that I was able to tell my friend all of these but fortunately, our next conversation was about some other dude who never helped her into her car but did ask for her number.
So you see...LoL

Last time on Sincerely Q

I have something to say, hmmmmmmm, I have something to say.... Listen! Listen pay full attention for I have something to say...... Ehennnnnn so let me land. When I dropped my first note this year " Same wish-list as every year" it was focused on the unmarried young lady and this led me straight to my next thoughts which i'm about to share with you. You know I always like to look at the flip side of every story, so my focus is undoubtedly focused on the unmarried brothers. When I write I draw my inspiration/findings from real life everyday  people and experiences that everyone can relate with, it doesn't necessarily have to be about me but I clearly like to state my opinion on life issues as I see or perceive them. *wink* Now  Prince charming got it all working for him, a good family, a great job, a nice apartment, may or may not have a car, perfect gentle man, ladies man, and goes to church at le ast every sunday. He's mature and respectful, he's always...
